Coupang and the U.S. State Department announced a new partnership to advance our joint efforts to drive innovation and economic security in the Asia-Pacific region. The Coupang-State Department partnership will focus on expanding public diplomacy and skills training programs for entrepreneurs. In doing so, it will accelerate key economic and security goals outlined by Deputy Secretary of State Kurt Campbell during trilateral discussions with South Korean and Japanese leaders in May 2024.

“For the past 10 years, Coupang has played a critical and growing role in facilitating U.S. exports and stronger trade ties between the U.S. and Asia,” said Bill Anaya, Vice President of Global Government Affairs, Coupang. “As a growth engine for thousands of U.S.-based sellers, brands and businesses, we’re proud to partner with the State Department to advance our shared goals and deepen Coupang’s positive impact in the region.”

As part of this strategic partnership, Coupang will support the technology build out of the new American Space in Busan, Korea and help expand programming at six international American Spaces through initiatives focused on upskilling youth, leadership development, and sports diplomacy. American Spaces are the U.S. government’s primary public locations on foreign soil. Their purpose is to build and maintain people-to-people connections between the United States and overseas audiences.

We will also work with the U.S. Embassy in Seoul to launch a new cohort of participants for the Department’s Academy for Women Entrepreneurs (AWE) program, consistent with our commitment to invest in the recruitment, employment, and the promotion of women in the areas of software engineering, data science, and logistics.

We’re excited to partner with the U.S. State Department to engage and support diverse populations through academic, cultural, sports, and professional exchanges and programs.
